In his unpublished texts “Moral effects of the acceleration of history” (1969-1970) and “Are we free?” (1989-1990), Jules Vuillemin shows himself as an engaged observer of his time. He criticizes some contemporary social and political actions—May 1968 and the 1989 reform of the French penal code—on metaphysical and moral grounds. These texts show that engagement and politics, for Jules Vuillemin, do not take place in opinion columns but in argumentation.
