STUDY REGARDING THE SELECTION AND ORIENTATION OF PREPARATION OF CATEGORY I CHILDREN, IN MIDDLE DISTANCE RUNNING EVENTS AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL
Abstract
Given the emergence of a new category of children III (7-8 years) – which is a new competitive category, established in 2011 by the Romanian Athletics Federation, we can notice that the athletes-children from category I (12-13 years) - are already at a stage of sport development where intensity of trainings may increase moderately. Therefore, we were interested to see what would be the orientation of preparation from first category nationwide. In order to find out this information I applied the survey method using a questionnaire. The questionnaires were applied on a sample of 20 people, specialists (teachers and trainers) during the competition year 2012 in the National Junior I Championships, youth and seniors. During the survey we watched to see which is the age that coaches / teachers consider to be optimal for the selection in athletics/middle distance running,, what are the main selection criteria, whether they see as important a test of perseverance for future athletes, what are the first steps in the process of training of the little young athletes, what is the duration of a training session, at how many competitions children attend, what is the distance between competitions and how many times they run the base test.Through this survey we wanted to know, especially the opinion of experts in the field about the importance of improving aerobic capacity for effort by using exercises / resources that are based on a period increasingly higher with moderate tempo with children from category I and also the distribution of training resources on the three areas of effort - aerobic, anaerobic, mixed. We surveyed coaches / teachers regarding the events and the tests of accurate measurement of aerobic effort made by children during the preparation and what techniques and means of recovery after effort are used by coaches during the training.
