LOAN-TRANSLATION OF ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN THE TATAR LANGUAGE

Abstract

The article presents a comparative analysis of English phraseological calques that have entered the Tatar literary language through the Russian language and their prototypes. The relevance of this research is due to the insufficient number of works on this issue in the comparative aspect. The study of the problem of calques as a kind of display of cultural, economic, socio-political and language contacts between peoples is one of the important sections of the theory of language contacts. Purpose. The purpose of the work is the structural-semantic analysis of English phraseological calques of the Tatar language. Methodology. The basis of the study is formed by the scientific observation method, comparative method, descriptive and searching method. Results. The result of the analysis of phraseological calques of the Tatar language and their English prototypes identified the following main point: the phenomenon of phraseological loan translation involves the two necessary steps: transmission of the meaning of a foreign language expression by means of translating and forming a phraseological calque as an independent set expression, that is, its occurrence in the lexical-phraseological system of the Tatar language, as well as its further active usage in the language of literary works and media. Practical implications. The results of the study may find application in the development of lectures, special courses and seminars on lexicology, phraseology and stylistics of Tatar language, comparative typology of English and Tatar languages, as well as in the classes on theory and practice of translation; when forming bilingual phraseological dictionaries.
