Temporal bone fracture presenting as isolated facial nerve paralysis mimicking Bell’s palsy: A case report
Abstract
Facial nerve paralysis can be caused by temporal bone fractures. We present a case of a teenager presenting with a displaced fracture of the left zygomatic complex and left mandibular parasymphysis. Following ORIF of the left sided facial fractures he developed isolated seventh nerve palsy on the right side. CT imaging showed longitudinal un-displaced fractures of the right petrous temporal bone extending cranially. No features of a temporal bone fracture were exhibited in this case on presentation.
