This study investigates to what extent education, more specifically the quality of education, is an important aspect of development and how it is linked to other dimensions of human life. To check these associations it was calculated the Pearson correlation between the quality of education in cities of the Minas Gerais State in Brazil, measured by the Index of Development of Basic Education (IDBE), and each of the other dimensions of human development, measured in accordance with the Minas Gerais State Social Responsibility Index (MSRI). It was observed that the fact that education quality is linked to other dimensions of development may mean that this aspect of education as well as a potential cause of improvement in other dimensions of development, suffers a possible effect of policies geared to the other dimensions of development.
