Combat damage control surgery (CDCS) differs greatly with civilian damage control surgery (DCS), and CDCS has been further developed in Operation Iraq Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Many new ideas, concepts and theories have emerged in this period, such as global DCS, damage control resuscitation (DCR; damage control resuscitation as early as at battlefield), radiological DCS, implementation of DCS during first-aid stage (namely remote DCS), enhancement of en route DCS, and different damage control operation strategies. Many factors are needed to make these theories into practice, which include good coordination and organization, qualitified medical staffs, continuous training for skill maintenance, and equipped with appropriate medicine, staffs and equipment.
