La sensibilisation par les jeux vidéo comportant des modalités documentaires

Abstract

Starting from the observation that documentary modalities have been increasingly present in some video games for the past fifteen years, this article looks at the way in which these games attempt to make their players aware of social issues. To do so, it first discusses the general relationship between the documentary form and video games and gives a brief overview of the state of research. Then, the main specificities of a documentary approach in video games are highlighted in relation to similar formats - webdocumentaries and historical fictional games. Finally, the article attempts to analyse some of the main strategies used by some video games to raise awareness of different social themes. The article considers research on documentary and the documentary form in general, approaches from game science and studies on webdocumentary.
