Aproximaciones al pensamiento analítico de Domingo Santa Cruz
Abstract
The article presents a study about the characteristics of the analytic thought of who was the first university professor of musical analysis in Chile: Domingo Santa Cruz. It presents evidence of the influence of Jules Combarieu, Vincent d'Indy and Hugo Riemann in the thought of the composer, plus his metaphorical and theoretical keys. Because Santa Cruz left no theoretical writings about his vision of analysis, this research has resort to his memoirs, analytical articles –specially about Bach and Beethoven–, and the essay by Gustavo Becerra “Crisis of the teaching of composition in the West”. Finally, it emphasizes that this line of research opens the door for a study about a strictly musical ideology in Chilean academia of the 20th century, regarding theory and analysis.
