Nowadays, due to negligence and inattention to sustainable development in most countries, cities are encountered with adverse cycle of socio-economic and environmental imbalances leading to unprecedented challenges such as poverty, quality of life decline, income gaps, social disruption and injustice in the social services and utilities distribution. Therefore, this study, the economic, social, environmental and physical (architectural) features of Iranshahr city in terms of development indicators were evaluated and analyzed and were compared with the average urban system in Iran using the Wilcoxon test, the results of which were presented and explained in this study. Compared to the average urban system, the results of the study showed that Iranshahr did not have any significant differences in terms of sustainable development indicators of the country. Therefore, consistent with the applied and developmental nature of the study, for the optimal planning and moving towards sustainable urban development in Iranshahr, the most significant and effective variables were selected, accordingly. Then, based on the existing conditions, each variable was assessed and weighed using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)، using the Wilcoxon testand ExpertChoice . softwareThe final results of this research showed that Physical and economic indices has been a priorityand variables such as housing, healthcare, education, poverty reduction, social differences, and investment facilitating and job creation were of utmost importance to plan for sustainable urban development in Iranshahr.
