This study aimed to estimate the potential of greenhouse gas emissions per monetary unit by relating them to the productive structure in force in the countries that make up the BRIC - Brazil, Russia, India and China, in 2009. The methodology used was the input-product model expanded to environmental coefficients to calculate the generating effect and its overflow. The results show the importance of infrastructure in mitigating pollutants, given that the sectors of Transport for Brazil and the sector of Electricity, Gas and Water for Russia, India and China are the main responsible for the intensity of CO2 emissions. As well as giving greater attention to the primary sector, Agriculture and mineral extraction, and service, as they are the largest generators of CH4 and N2O in the BRIC economies.
