Multi-ethnicity as an attraction of the Paraguayan Chaco. Period 2020-2030
Abstract
Ethnic cultural heritage is considered a tourist attraction that can be used to reduce the economic and social disadvantages prevailing in the environment and improve the quality of life of native or aboriginal peoples. The objective of the study was to examine the challenges and opportunities for the tourism valorization of the multiethnic culture of the Paraguayan Chaco. An exploratory study was carried out with qualitative data, through a triangulation with interviews, official public documents and field observation. As results, the dominant ethnic groups promote tourism to consolidate group identity, not as an economic alternative; while the other groups do not consider tourism as an economic opportunity; local customs and traditions constrain tour- ism activities. There is ample potential for multiethnic tourism in the region.
