This article explores, analyses and reconstructs the meanings, scope and contradictions of the relationship between territories, borders and population (in)mobility in the border area between southern Mexico and Central America.Based on this reconstruction and the perspective that is intuited for this border space, an analytical proposal is presented, intertwined in two conceptual proposals: dense territory and migratory vortex, in which the assumptions are condensed to address the interrelationship between the border and human (in)mobilities. Therefore, the region is deconstructed into two specific and particular, but closely integrated, border spaces: the south of the southern border, with the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca as highly representative of the processes of human (in)mobility; and the north of the southern border, made up of the states of Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Campeche and Tabasco, where the impact of the territorial rearrangements underway ends the reconfiguration of the traditional border.
