Crítica después de la historia: Zum Felde, Real de Azúa
Abstract
This article analyzes the controversy between the Uruguayan critics Carlos Real de Azúa and Alberto Zum Felde around “literary history”. The dispute initiated in the weekly publication Marcha in 1955 problematizes the notions of history as a concept, field of research and writing. It anticipates a theoretical crisis and eventually divides the historiography of Uruguayan literature. Real de Azúa’s groundbreaking argument, the object of this article, suggests the impossibility of a history of literature and instead proposes an approach to “temporal texture”.
