Abstract

In his 1992 book Sociologie de l’éthique, Jean-Louis Genard develops a robust approach for understanding ethics from a sociological and historical perspective. By highlighting the main arguments put forward in the book, this article aims to demonstrate its originality and relevance. It also strives to identify some of Genard’s theoretical assumptions and biases: the philosophical basis of the sociological approach, the historical and critical perspective, and the passionate nature of the moral subject.
