Abstract

In this work, we describe the emergence of EJA, its political, social and educational trajectory, understanding that school education is essential for human life, even though it was historically a privilege only for the middle and upper class. This work aimed to expand the discussion regarding the importance of EJA for the promotion of social equality. This study had as theoretical basis authors like Haddad and Di Pierro (2000), Soares (1996), Paiva (1983), Freire (1989) and Mello (2015) among others who, through discussions, collaborated to write this work. It was characterized as an exploratory research, being the same of qualitative nature, using bibliographic analysis and documentary and oral sources, insofar as related processes and documents were analyzed. In view of the results, the important role of teachers as mediators in the learning process and motivation of students for the continuation of studies was evidenced.
