A Silvicultura Madeireira na Secretaria de Desenvolvimento Regional de Joaçaba – SDR de Joaçaba

Abstract

This work discusses the potentialities for forestry in the area covered by the Secretary of Regional Development of Joaçaba – SRD of Joaçaba, in state of Santa Catarina. To develop this study, exploratory and descriptive research with qualitative and quantitative approach, and procedures of bibliographical and documentary research were used. The study comprises 13 counties of the region object of this work. Data were extracted from the databases of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE and supplemented with data of other public organisms and private representative organisms of the forestry sector. The studies consisted of analysis of historical production of charcoal, firewood and timber in logs for pulp and paper and for various purposes. Also there were explored documents on studies of soil characteristics to identify the soil characteristics of the region. The results indicate that in seven counties potentialities are characterized as unattractive for development of forestry for wood and biomass production, in two counties are possibilities for moderate expansion, in three counties is possible a significant increase in production, and in one county with large production it was impossible to define trends.
