THE RESEARCH IN ETHNOMATHEMATICS AND THE LIMITS OF CULTURE
Abstract
In this article I discuss some problematic issues concerning ethnomathematics research, namely the ones related with its educational implications. Certain ethnomathematical assumptions at the level of epistemology, pedagogy and politics, lack a theoretical basis, thus making difficult for Ethnomathematics to posit itself in relation to local knowledge and school. As a consequence, Ethnomathematics research can be easily domesticated, ending up reproducing in practice what is criticized at a discursive level.
