The representation of black in a collection of geographical education books
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the ethnic-racial relations in the images of a collection of didactic books of Geography by the National Program of Didactic Book 2018, destined to the Brazilian High School. We counted and categorized the characters present in photos and figures of the collection. The classification of color/race used by the IBGE was used to account for the characters. A second analysis was made from only the photos that contained a group of characters, that is, more than two characters. Finally, a qualitative analysis of the way the characters were being represented was presented. It was observed that even the interdicts of federal legislation regarding the non-discrimination of Africans and Afro-Brazilians, the representation of them still deserves more attention on the part of those who elaborate and who analyzes the books to be distributed through public policies.
