Sclerosing polycystic adenoma of parotid gland with intermediate to high-grade intraductal carcinoma: A rare case report
Abstract
Sclerosing polycystic adenoma (SPA) is a rare newly described salivary gland lesion that was initially believed to be “reactive-inflammatory”. The exact nature of SPA is unclear, but its neoplastic nature has recently been supported by the literature and its molecular genetics. The World Health Organization Classification of Head and Neck Tumours has recently shifted SPA to be under neoplasms in its latest edition in 2022.We present a case of SPA showing classic histomorphological features with a component of intermediate to high grade intraductal carcinoma, involving the parotid gland of a 20-year-old male. It was diagnosed and managed at a tertiary hospital in Saudi Arabia. Here, we provide an additional evidence that supports the classification of SPA as a true neoplasm.
