This article studies the importance of the printer in the making of the book. The printer is one of the partners in that collective activity that is the making of the book. The result depends on exchanges and negotiations between these different partners. But the book is also created in an economic context that explains the re-use of material. This article studies these questions in the case of a family of printers (the Meys) in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Valencia.
