In this research, social studies preservice teachers’ mapping skills were examined. This research is the first in our country as to reveal social studies preservice teachers’ mapping skills. 38 preservice teachers were involved in the research. It was seen that social studies preservice teachers involved in the research could not map satisfactorily in general and their maps included serious mistakes. Gender was determined to be influential on mapping and the male preservice teachers were determined to map more satisfactorily than the female preservice teachers. It was found out in this research that whether academic average is high or low does not have significant influence on the preservice teachers’ mapping skills. The preservice teachers not having gone abroad before were seen to map more satisfactorily. In this research, the preservice teachers ranking geography as the second of the classes they had studied in the faculty in terms of importance were found out to map more satisfactorily. It was revealed that types of the high schools the preservice teachers had graduated were revealed not to have significant influence on mapping skills.
