Erosion susceptibility analysis of Hasret Mountain, which is located in the east of Elazığ, was performed in this study. Hasret Mountain is composed of magmatic rocks in the basic and impervious and carbonate rocks in the upper levels. Cut by the Elazığ fault, the southern part of the mountain has a wavelike disposition. Extreme-severity erosions occur due to the climatic, geologic and geomorphologic properties and the vegetation around Hasret Mountain. The materials carried with erosion from mountainsides affect the settlements and agricultural lands in the south of Hasret Mountain. Besides this region, the materials carried cause to siltation in Keban Dam Lake. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) methods were used to determine the effects of the erosion and erosion sensitive areas that Hasret Mountain and around. Lithology, slope, tributary density, vegetation and soil texture (soil brightness) were analyzed in order to determine the erosion susceptibility. These factors having influence on the erosion were classified according to their levels of significance and an erosion susceptibility map was created with weighted overlay method. Based on the susceptibility map, which were obtained by ovelaying factor maps, it was determined that 51% of the region around Hasret Mountain was highly sensitive to erosion. The reasonably sensitive areas constitute 20% and low susceptibility areas constitute 29% of the region. It is seen with these results that Hasret Mountain and around is highly sensitive to erosion. Considering this situation, works for combating erosion, which continues currently in the region, must be sped up
