During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1938), large masses of people left their homes in order to avoid repressive actions of a political nature. A large part of the refugees were redistributed among the different locations of the republican rear. The article focuses on the more than 20,000 people who were relocated throughout the province of Castellón de la Plana. What were the main areas of origin? What means of transport did they use? How were they distributed among the different localities? Which institutions took charge of its management? In what conditions were they welcomed? Was there good coexistence between the hosts and the newcomers? Who took care of the children? In what circumstances was the subsequent evacuation of the municipalities of Castellón carried out? In short, we will analyze everything related to this collective subject, which were the refugees, in the territorial context of Castellón.
