Abstract | Full Text

International migration in Mexico is a dynamic phenomenon which has had as its main destination the United States. One of the main motives behind people’s de- cision to migrate is to improve their economic conditions, so the money they send is a vital resource for their families and communities in the place of origin. The main objective of this article is to present a general view of interna- tional migration and the flow of remittances in Mexico, particularly in the Valley of Mexico Metropolitan Area, which has been characte- rized as a place with an important migration dynamic that includes processes such as inter- nal migration, the deceleration of this process since the nineties, its incorporation to the inter- national migration process and, of course, the receipt of remittances, which, as in most states, are destined to the satisfaction of household basic needs
