Electrification of NMIJ'S 540 kN dead-weight type force standard machine

Abstract

The old driving mechanisms for the linkage-weights of the 540 kN dead-weight type force standard machine (DWM) was replaced and was electrified. Aging for dozens of years brought difficulty in obtaining repair parts and many troubles such as leakages of hydraulic fluid. The modification was divided into two parts: one was a replacement of the driving mechanisms for the small linkage-weights in 2017, and another was that for the large linkage-weights in 2020. Modernization of the 540 kN DWM achieved to improve reliability of compositions and to reduce resources such as electricity, water, and time. The DWM obtained durability for the next ten years.
