This article analyzes the general characteristics of Mexico’s energy matrix, as well as the current limited and potential capacities for energy production from renewable power sources. The regulatory framework that defines the context for clean energy production, the institutional actors and the existing incentives are also analyzed. Our purpose is to show the dilemmas and tensions that prevent advancement towards a greater use of renewable power sources in the country, especially after the recent change of government.
