Abstract

In France, the descendants of Spanish republican refugees, united by a common destiny and a community of cause, are gathered in associations to keep the memory of their predecessors alive. Their legacy, a collective memory marked by the trauma of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and of their exile, is significant. The handover from the first generation to the next has been accomplished. Today, between memory and commitment, the descendants of the Spanish Republicans in France express their line of descent in many different ways.
