Sustainable Exploitation of Unconventional Hydrocarbons: Environmental Compliance

Abstract

Energy production from unconventional hydrocarbons has grown. The impacts are commercial and geopolitical but also to the environmental, given that the exploitation of shale, the way it's been done, entails a number of negative externalities. In this context the compliance appears to be effective to address the issue and needs to be studied from the perspective of Environmental Law, under the Law and Sustainability research line. The methodology chosen was the dialogic, which articulates the necessary interdisciplinary opposition to build useful conventions. The design techniques used were bibliographical, documentary and legislative research.
