The present treatise deals with the morphological and evolutionary characteristics of fossil mammoths housed by the Chair for Geology and Palaentology at the University of Ljubljana. Notwithstanding the fact that most localities are regarded as unknown, we may presume - according to the degree of development similar to the one of the tooth found in the vicinity of Knin as well as the molarstreated by Lenardic (1991a) - that a major lot of teeth under examination is most probably from the Croatian territory. The palaentologic examination of the teeth in question has established that they belong to the species Mammuthus primigenius (Blumenbach) of different developing stages.
