Highlights Cell-type specific labeling of VTA-to-BLA dopaminergic axons and synaptic boutons in mice The intensity of dopaminergic innervation in BLA is intermediate between those in PFC and NAC Dopaminergic axon density in BLA and the size of BLA are similar between males and females The density of dopaminergic boutons in BLA is significantly higher in males than females
