The topic of this article is changing workplace communication, viewed from the perspective of using new technologies. The focus is on discussions about the implementation and use of a new information system (Peppi) in training events at a Finnish higher education organization. Peppi replaces several separate previous systems, used for teaching and resource planning, management and scheduling. The data consists of ethnographic notes from seven training events, where the core users from the education services familiarize themselves with Peppi. We utilized the concept of recontextualization to analyze how the concepts of both educational planning and Peppi’s system were presented and illustrated in the discussions. The analysis highlights that the recontextualization of concepts relies primarily on the main trainer’s ways to show simple textual examples related to the Peppi, to display different kinds of example views and functions within the new system, and actively using it in front of the participants. Though, these three recontextualization means emerge from all participants’ joint knowledge and discussion about the contents of relevant old and new concepts as well as old and new systems.
