[Objective] Modern ART (autonomous rail transit) trams often adopt multi-car articulated configurations in operation, because articulation joints possess significant degrees of freedom, relating the smooth operation of the vehicles. Therefore, it is essential to conduct in-depth research of the design of vehicle-end turning hydraulic devices. [Method] To reduce the vehicle articulation joint freedom degree, enhance vehicle anti-instability capability, and assist in vehicle turning, a vehicle-end turning hydraulic device is designed, accompanied by simulation researches. Based on the structural characteristics of articulated vehicle configurations and specific requirements for articulation structures, the overall scheme and principles of the vehicle-end turning hydraulic device are formulated. Precise calculations and rational selection of key component parameters are performed to complete the design of the overall structure. A simulation model is built using Simulink software to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the vehicle-end turning hydraulic device and the dynamic changes at articulation points during vehicle turning operation. [Result & Conclusion] Simulation results show that the designed vehicle-end turning hydraulic device meet the input requirements for dynamic motion parameters, with all vehicles showing high dynamic consistency and minimal yaw amplitude. This device plays a critical role in enhancing vehicle steering performance and controlling instability.
