Restauración y Reconquista: sinónimos en una época romántica y nacionalista (1850-1896)

Abstract

This article analyses the way in which the terms «restoration» and «reconquest» were used by historians outwith the sphere of the Real Academia de la Historia in the second half of the 19th century. It also examines the process whereby the term «reconquest» became associated with the notions of fatherland and nation and came to be one of the most important concepts underpinning Spain’s historical identity throughout the second half of the 19th century.
