Abstract
The article explores early examples of literary interviews as a genre and describes the forms of interaction between the interviewer and the interviewee and variants of presentation of the material in the periodical press of the late 20th – early 20th century. New material previously unexplored is introduced into scholarly discourse. Literary interviews are considered through a narratological approach, which allows interpreting the formal and content-related aspects and compares the modern approach to the genre of interview and the retrospective one, based on working out the definition of the genre in the period under study and the representation of genre characteristics in the samples of this genre of mass media. The analysis is based on the following criteria: the structure of the interview, the purpose of the introduction (introductory part) in analytical essays and the transfer of its content into the genre of notes, and the event-driven topical field. The study defines the genre of “literary interview”, presents the predecessors of the genre, formulates a methodological approach to writing interviews during this period, and determines the dependence of interaction on the narratological framework offered to the writer by the correspondent of the publication. The author makes a conclusion about the topical diversity of interviews, their stylistic features, the possibility of using the material of conversations with writers to analyze the public self-reflection of the writers’ community on topical socio-cultural questions and the ability of literature to answer them.
