The current study aims to identify the extent of competence of public secondary school teachers in the Directorate of Education for the Second Zarqa District from their point of view. The study used a descriptive correlative survey method. The study population consisted of all public secondary school teachers in the Directorate of Education for the Second Zarqa District during the academic year 2016/2017 (n=459). A simple random sample of (285) male and female teachers was selected. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was used as a tool to identify the degree of competence of the teachers from their point of view. The results indicated that the degree of competence was medium, and that there were statistically significant differences due to gender in favor of males, due to educational qualification variable in favor of higher degrees, and due to experience in favor of those with more experience. In light of the results, the study recommends the need to enhance teaching practices of public secondary school teachers, and encourage participation in local and regional awards such as Queen Rania Award for the Distinguished Teacher.
