This article deals with the transformations generated by the development of a private tourism investment activity (casas particulares, paladares) within transnational families in Cuba. On one hand, it is about revealing how foreign-based Cubans invest in tourism, thus creating or recreating both material and affective links with their homeland, especially through the rallying of a specific capital. On the other hand, it is about discussing the way a touristic activity directly impacts the daily life and the intimacy of scattered families. While developing a touristic activity can be directly perceived as a select and strategic activity, according to reasoning insofar as families are internationalized (in a context in which Cuba’s opening towards migration is limited); it can also become a factor of family scattering and its required condition.
