Soldados de Salamina: storia di una salvezza possibile

Abstract

In this study on the well known novel by Cercas, I will highlight several aspects related to postmodernity, at the same time my reading of the text will show its importance for the ethics of memory. By reporting an act of salvation, the narrator saves the memory of the agent of this act and of those who fought against Franco. At the same time, combining the collective episodes of the war with many of his private life in a metanarrative way, the narrator manages successfully to create and maintain a feasible and forceful novel.
