Empis (Empis) nikita sp. n. is described from Morocco. The new species belongs to a group of species with incomplete vein M1 that was placed earlier to the subgenus Coptophlebia Bezzi, 1909. The new species differs from all species of Empis s. str. by the structure of abdominal sternite 7 of the male which has long, hornlike projection curved anteriorly. A key to species of Empis s. str. with incomplete vein M1 known from the Mediterranean basin is compiled for the first time
