Student-Teachers’ Feedback after Fulfilling Their High School Observation
Abstract
High school observation is a compulsory subject belonging to professional knowledge for students majoring in English language teaching. The purpose of the survey presented in this article is to investigate student- teachers’ feedback after their high school observation. 91 students (98.9%) of the 2012 intake participated in answering the survey after they fulfilled their observation in high schools. The findings of the survey prove that almost all of the students were very positive when they had a chance to observe high school classes before their English teaching practicum. High school observation has helped students develop their awareness of the roles of education, their own responsibility, school disciplines, as well as their communication and pedagogical skills. On the one hand, after observing high school classes, students could deepen their professional knowledge and could become familiar with English lessons, teaching methods, and organizing English classes in high schools. On the other hand, during their high school observation, students encountered some problems in their professional knowledge, communication and ability to adapt themselves to pedagogical environment. Therefore, the author recommended the leader and the staff of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Ho Chi Minh City Open University should have some measurements in order to help student-teachers of the 2013 intake gain more success in their high school observation next year.
