Fe–Cr–B-based wear-resistant alloys – A review on microstructure and tribological properties
Abstract
Industrial components subjected to severe conditions need high wear-resistant alloys to enhance durability and reliability, leading to substantial reductions in maintenance costs and downtime. Their composition and microstructure determine hardness, toughness, friction, and resistance to wear. Fe–Cr–B-based alloys, with their excellent wear resistance attributes, are important in various industrial applications. In this review, the tribological performance of Fe–Cr–B-based alloys is concisely described. First, the phase and microstructural analysis of the alloys is discussed, followed by the correlation with their tribological properties. The variations in hardness across different alloy systems are also presented. The collective information provided could catalyze the development of more efficient Fe–Cr–B-based alloy systems having improved mechanical and tribological performance.
