Abstract A better understanding of how and why the regenerative capacity differs among species will not only provide insights into the regeneration process but also hold value for the development of regenerative medicine and the improvement of healing procedures. In a recent Nature article, Zhulyn et al. identify a critical role played by the activation of mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) signaling in enhancing tissue regenerative capacity in animals.
