The article analyzes the legal situation of non-Catholic religions in Peru. These, recently, have grown in diversity and in the number of members. New legislation has been drafted and the religious issue is addressed in terms of collaboration with the State, without considering the regulation of sectarian drifts. Due to the prevalence of Catholicism in Peruvian culture, consideration of religions is conceptualized using catholic categories, which causes difficulties and inadequacies that vary depending on the specific characteristics of the religions and cults. In this article we address the cases of evangelical religions and of religions from another cultural environment, as well as of cults of pre-Columbian origin.
