Phaseolus genus, as well as other legumes, has proved recalcitrant plant regeneration in vitro and mainly to genetic transformation via Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Genetic transformation in this species is limited because of their genotype dependent, as well as being a process of low efficiency and poor reproducibility. There are evidences that several factors influence DNA integration and stable transformation of plants. This review aims to analyze the influence of different factors on the efficiency of genetic transformation via Agrobacterium tumefaciens in Phaseolus such as: bacterial strain, plasmid, temperature, lighting conditions, coculture time, bacterial concentration and selection marker. Keywords: common beans, DNA, legumes, transgenic plants.
