FROM EMPLOYMENT TO ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT: A CASE STUDY OF FORMER EMPLOYEES OF ROȘIA MONTANĂ GOLD CORPORATION IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION
Abstract
After the fall of Communism in Romania, the old Roşia Montană mining community had to adapt to the changes that occurred as a result of the globalization process. In that area the number of the unemployed was increasing due to the closure of the former state mining company. The community's ties with the foreign investor who wanted to implement the Roşia Montană gold mining project became more and more profound as the unemployment level in the area was very high and the investment could influence the sustainable development of the area. This study captures the organizational commitment of former employees of Roşia Montană Gold Corporation (RMGC) to the Roşia Montană Project - the main purpose of the company. The novelty of the research is given by the perspective of a different approach of the organizational commitment. If the researches undertaken so far surprised employees' organizational commitment to the company they are operating in, the present study presents the organizational commitment of former RMGC employees to the main purpose of the company - the Roşia Montană Project. After a sociological survey, it was noted that former employees are still devoted to the RMGC Project after the dismissal, firstly because this devotion would bring them material benefits. The score for the continuance commitment is the highest.
