Aging is a multidimensional process. According to the WHO, between 2015 and 2050 the percentage of older people will almost double. Among the most important public health goals is to promote and sustain the health and well-being of the older population, which is best served by a place of habitual residence. In Spain the aging index has increased by 10% in recent years with the community of Castilla y León leading the way and more rural population. The application of technologies allows older people to optimise their quality of life. The aim of this work was to carry out a bibliographic review of the technologies used for independent living in rural areas published. The articles published from January 2014 to January 2020 in the databases CINAHL, PSICODOC, PubMed, Scielo, OT Seeker were identified, using the descriptors Aging, technology and rural environment and their corresponding in Spanish, envejecimiento, tecnología y entorno rural. The results show that there is a variability in the type of technologies researched. However, the application in the areas of occupational performance is limited and research in rural environments is minimal.
