Alterations of the outlying circulation by means of carotidal Doppler in patient with retinitis pigmentosa
Abstract
The retinitis pigmentosa is the most common among the retinal dystrophies. The vascular changes are related with their physiopathology, although the damages or circulatory dysfunctions don't constitute the primary cause. Objectives and Methods: it was carried out a descriptive and traverse study in the National Center of Reference of Retinitis Pigmentosa, Havana, with the objective of identifying the state of the outlying circulation of the patients with retinitis pigmentosa by means of the carotidal Doppler. Of an universe of 400 suffered patients of this affection, it was conformed to a sample of 158 after having applied the inclusion and exclusion approaches. The variable age, sex and stadium of the illness were analyzed, this last one according to the Classification of the Cuban School of Retinitis Pigmentosa. To all the patients they were carried out carotidal Doppler and the results were considered negative (absence of atheroma badges and turbulence and vertebral-basilar system permeable) and pathological (presence of atheroma badges, turbulent flow and stenosis of the light of the examined glass or their branches). The data were processed by descriptive methods (percent). Results: the represented age range was between 41 and 50 years (32.91%). Prevailed the feminine sex (60.12%) and the normal Doppler (68.35%). The biggest percent (32.0) of outlying circulatory alterations it was in patient in stadium IV of the illness. Conclusions: the alterations of the outlying circulation found in the carotidal Doppler of the examined patients corresponded mainly those in the last evolutionary stadium of the illness.
