In order to clarify the reasons of the surface cracking of Inconel 600 nickel - chromium alloy sheets during hot rolling, chemical composition, metallographic structure, fracture scanning and energy spectrum analyses were adopted to study the cracking propagation position. Results illustrated that the oxide inclusions at grain boundary reduced the grain boundary strength and stress concentration under stress led to crack. Furthermore, the coarse grains reduced the rotation ability of grain boundaries and deteriorated the coordination ability of grains, which also led to crack. By improving the smelting process and the billet forging process, the oxygen content was reduced, the grains were refined, and the surface cracking of the hot - rolled alloy was overcome, and finally qualified plates were obtained.
