Documents concerning the participation of academician V. I. Hryshchenko in VI - X world congresses on gynecology and obstetrics organized by the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) (1970 - 1982)
Abstract
The aim of the research is to analyse the sources’ species composition and the degree of information capability of the documents from the personal archive collection ofacademician V. I. Hryshchenko, which ended up being preserved in the fonds of the Institute of Manuscript V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine since the said documents reflect the premise of the scientist’s participation, process and results within the world congresses of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), which took place throughout 1970-1982 period. The methodology of the research includes the use of historical-retrospective, historical-comparative, historical-chronological, historical-typological, and historical-systematic methods. This methodological approach allows to analyse the sources’ species composition and the degree of information capability of the documents from the personal archive collection of the scientist in order to define the primary area of V. I. Hryshchenko’s work, academician’s scientific activities in spatial and chronological aspects, the state of medicine’s development in foreign countries and USSR within the same time frames. The scientific novelty of the research is shown by the first ever introduction of the considerable volume of archival materials into scientific circulation, which significantly supplemented the overall picture of the activities of the famous Ukrainian scientist in the sphere of obstetrics, gynecology and cryomedicine, NAS of Ukraine academician V. I. Hryshchenko. Moreover, the research provides evaluation of tendencies, as far as the development of medical science is concerned. The research also uncovers the peculiarities of the scientist’s participation in the FIGO congresses throughout the 1970-1982 period. Conclusions. It was established that the scientist’s participationin the FIGO world congresses had a huge impact on the scientist’s familiarity with the results of various scientific researches of the time as well as other progressive technologies in the world within the sphere of medicine. The scientist’s participation in such congresses also benefited the his collaboration with other leading scientists in the world as well as the popularization of scientific achievements of Soviet medicine and Hryshchenko’s overall growth as a respected scholar within scientific circles.
