Christology has always been the core of theological dispute within and outside the Church. Throughout many centuries, Christian theologians sought to face the philosophical challenges concerning the ontology of Christ. Origen was one of the most fervent debaters on Christ person and work. Although there are many controversial issues in his Christology, one has to understand the context and framework in which Origen lived and worked. Thus, a diachronic hermeneutical approach to his theology would be most helpful. However, we have taken here a philosophical approach to Origen’s thought in order to explain his theological concepts This has been, on one hand, a necessity for the understanding of his debates with the gnostic opponents. On the other hand, judged from Origin’s point of view, it was a risky one due to the lack of proper terminology with which he could have made his thoughts more accessible while describing the persons of the Trinity and the relations within it. Thus Origen, while was able to refute inappropriate Christological theories, opened the door for one of the most destructive heresy that challenged the Church, that is, Arianism.
