Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) is a rare life threatening condition characterized by bleeding into the alveolar spaces. Although it classically presents as hemoptysis, anemia, diffuse alveolar infiltrates, and acute respiratory failure, it is often a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for clinicians. It is associated with both immune and nonimmune causes. Prompt recognition and treatment of this entity are crucial. This article reviews the common etiologies, diagnosis, and management of the patients with DAH.
